There was a time in the past when one Malaysia was already a reality. I have lived through those times. I have lived at a time when I was comfortable being a young Malay who thought that living among others who were “different” from me was not only a fact of life but also a way of life. The prime minister was a father figure much respected and loved by all of us. Cabinet Ministers were people of substance and grace. And being able to enjoy the festivities, culture, and food of the others that were our neighbors and friends was something we were grateful and happy to partake in. All this and more I remembered during my younger days and early teens years. Alas, my children never knew these simple joys that I lived through. Why it is so is the fault of all of us for we have allowed ourselves to be wrecked asunder by issues of race, religion, and politics. Ponder upon this reality that has now made our country a living hell to live in for ALL of us…yes for ALL of us. God help us all.

Selamat pagi Malaysia.
