Our country is being pulled apart. It does not matter whether you are for Tun or Anwar. Whether you support BN or PH. Whatever your ethnic roots, whichever religion you choose or not chose to believe in….even from which state you come from…all this and more are fertile grounds to divide us all. There is no more any celebration of our diversity. No more any pride that there can be unity in our diversity. No common ground to allow us to be one people. No reason left to hope that there can be one Malaysia. All we have left is the audacity to hope that, like after PRU 14, maybe after PRU 15, there can be change.
Change to what? Too many of us feel fooled by the empty promises of politicians who promise us much before being elected to government only to deliver little when government is actually thrust upon them. Too many of us now feel that getting rid of corruption is a lost cause because if corruption exists and is accepted at the highest echelon of government, what hope do we have of eradicating corruption from our midst?
Each of us wants to have our say as to what needs to be done, what can be done and what should be done to make things right in our Nation. Anything I write about Tun, Anwar, Rafizi or any other individual whom I think can or cannot lead us to the Malaysia that we want for ourselves, invariably results in comments from you guys telling us all why one of the other can or cannot be the leader we need in this time of our nation’s greatest need. We cannot agree. We would rather be contentious in our beliefs than seek consensus on these matters that will decide the future of our nation. And the division among us should worry us all for this division is pulling us apart as a nation.
We need to seek ways in how to bring us all together in matters that concern us all. Finding a decent, responsible and inclusive leader is one of those concerns. Please, guys when you disagree with others on the choice as to who will be the next PM, listen to each other’s point of view and hear what the other guy has to say about their choice. Have meaningful discussions that help each other understand the good or bad of these leaders who we want to lead us. Open your mind and open your heart to consensus. We must have consensus on the things that matters to us….and having a good, decent leader is important to all of us. So go and talk among yourselves about who you want to be the next PM – talk about Najib too if you think he should the next PM…but do all this with grace and respect for each other’s point of view. Salam.
Selamat pagi Malaysia…be kind to one another.
