The Malays are being dumbed down by their own kind. The Malays have been used, abused and lied to by their own kind and by their own men of faith. That the Malays have survived is a testament of their belief in themselves and in the strength of character that they have within their inner reserve. No other race in this country has been subjected to so much attention and scrutiny by their own kind and by others. Through it all, the Malays have survived, and, dare I say it, thrived, despite the ravages of politics and in spite of themselves…but only just!
To continue to survive and thrive, the Malays need self-awareness. They need to have the ability to measure themselves realistically against the “others” living in their midst. They must do this independently of the burden that “ketuanan Melayu” imposes upon them. “Ketuanan Melayu” lulls the Malays into complacency. It presupposes inferiority. It locks the Malays into a culture where “entitlement” and “rent-seeking opportunities” becomes a way of life. And over all this, religion casts a suffocating chokehold that threatens to consign the Malays and their faith into the realms of the Never Never – a place where the Malays will soon be reduced to nothing because anyone condemned into these circumstances will fail.
For over six decades every opportunity given to the Malays to pull themselves out of this quagmire has been hijacked and abused by other Malays. Every lifeline thrown to get them out of this dire state have not been fit for purpose. Is it not time that the Malays seek the help of others?
