You want Anwar to be PM because he has been promised the job by Tun? Really?
Did it ever occur to you to ask yourself if Anwar deserves to be PM? Did it ever occur to you to think and work through what he has done from the time he had the number two position in his grasp until what he has done in the last week?
Do you know about the Special Branch report that advised Mahathir not to take Anwar into Umno? You already know about how he plotted against Ghaffar Baba. You know during his tenure as DPM and as Minister of Finance he positioned his “people” in PLC and gave them strategic positions in various business organizations and statutory bodies to ensure that there will be adequate funds to oil his “electioneering” adventures? And you are convinced that his ouster from UMNO was a plot by the powers that be so that Mahathir’s position as PM was secured.
You are convinced that the subsequent trial for corruption and sodomy was all a sham. The evidence planted. The judge’s lackeys of Mahathir. And his incarceration was a travesty of justice. OK….let say I agree to all of that.
Fast forward to the second sodomy charge. Do you say that Saiful was a plant? That the judiciary took instructions from Najib. And again, in the end, justice was not served and his incarceration was again a travesty of justice? But did any of you hear Anwar deny that there was penetration? Did Anwar deny the events that led to the Sodomy? The presents he gave Saiful. Why he wanted Saiful to be with him at that time of the day and for what purpose? No, he did not disagree that all that took place.
Then the pardon by the Agong. Why did he not want to clear his name in court? Time is of the essence? Come on lah…it is has been over a year since PH came to power. Anwar had more than enough time to clear his name of the sodomy accusation through the court process. Why did he not do so? Because he cannot do so? You go figure that out for yourself!
Now let us say that you accept that Anwar indulges in Sodomy. And you say that what he does in his private life has no bearing on whether he will be a good PM or not. Really? He wants to be PM of a country where Islam is the national religion – where Sodoly is Haram…please lah…that does not compute!
Now let us briefly look PKR. During the time that Anwar was physically around and in control of PKR, what happened in PKR? There was trouble and turmoil. Fistfights and chair-throwing during elections. People joining and leaving PKR. In short, there was no law or order within PKR. But when he was incarcerated – no problem in PKR. Factions behaved. Azmin Ali was effectively in charge during Anwar’s absence. Yes, Azizah resented Azmin’s presence because Azizah knows that Azmin knew more than anybody else, including her, what Anwar has done throughout his political and personal life – and I can assure you that what Anwar did in his personal and political life is something that Azizah was not comfortable with anybody else knowing…though she herself had an inkling of what it was that Anwar did. When Anwar was DPM, she wrote to Mahathir beseeching Mahathir to stop Anwar from misbehaving…but to no avail. Give credit to Mahathir for not using that letter to deal with Anwar as he thinks fit.
As soon as Anwar again takes control of PKR it was again divided and rule time. This time around after PRU14, with the promise that Anwar will be PM in two years’ time, Anwar could start bargaining for “loyalty” from people to whom he could promise positions, power and wealth, AFTER he became PM. And so the rush to be at Anwar’s side started in earnest. The first casualty? Rafizi and Nurrul. Think how much stronger Anwar’s position would be in PKR if those two were now by his side. And not only that, he has driven Azmin Ali away too….no let me correct that…Azizah has driven Azmin Ali away and Anwar did not have the guts to go against what Azizah wants because she has enough dirt on him to make him do what she wants.! But then that is typical Anwar. Look at PKR now and you can count on one hand the number of people who had been with him right from the beginning of PKR.
And then to the present. A few days ago he announced the appointment (the operative word is appointment) of someone who has failed to win a position in a PKR state election. He lost the vote by a massive margin. Anwar announced the appointment of that failure to head the State in which he had lost that seat! Tell me …how does that compute in your head? It shows Anwar’s disregard and disrespect for what PKR members want for themselves. It is always what Anwar wants that matters!
Now we have not taken into consideration what Tun wants or does not want in the question of Anwar taking over after Tun leaves. But you guys know Tun’s record as PM and what he does with his Deputy if he thinks them unworthy of being his replacement. Enough said.
So please lah…get a piece of paper and list out the reasons why Anwar should NOT be PM on one half of the paper and why he should be PM on the other half. Do not include what you will personally gain from the appointment of Anwar as PM as that comes under vested interests. Do not include any other interests except what Anwar’s appointment will do for Malaysia and Malaysians. And if you are true to yourself…by the end of that exercise…you will heave a sigh of relief and know why Anwar should not be PM…promise or no promise.
