“I would like to clarify on the point of the pardon. Pardon is normally given to those who have accepted the judgement of the court and then appeal to the King for a pardon. In my case we appeal because there was a miscarriage of justice. We appeal because there was a travesty of justice. We appeal because there is a clear conspiracy to condemn me and assassinate my political character….and the pardon is complete, unconditional and due to our appeal that there was miscarriage of justice on Anwar….therefor in a statement by the Prison Director…I don’t need to sign any document as the entire conviction is erased completely”.

Anwar Ibrahim.

And this is what Tun has to say about everyone being equal in the eyes of the Law.

I am getting a bit tired of seeing Tun Mahathir dancing the light fantastic every time a question comes up about brader Anwar’s conviction for Sodomy and the subsequent Royal Pardon.  Long story short, let me try to put things in perspective. Tun had to make that deal with PKR/Anwar to make Anwar’s PM after Tun in order to get PKR’s support for GE14. It was a political decision to ensure Pakatan Harapan had the best chance possible to oust Najib and BN out of Putrajaya.  And events since then has shown us that Tun made the right decision and PH won government. Now Tun has to live with making that “political decision” of making Anwar PM after he leaves. Tun is not comfortable with that decisions and it shows.

Anwar’s pardon is clearly against the norms of the law. How could the Agong agree that there was a miscarriage of justice? The Agong can’t overrule any court’s decision..he can only pardon. And one of the condition for the Agong to grant a pardon for Anwar is that Anwar has to plead that he is guilty first and then menyesal and promise not to commit any crimes again. Did he do so?  Mahathir tells us that everybody is equal in the eyes of the law, but Anwar Ibrahim is clearly above the law.

Tun Mahathir and this Pakatan Harapan government clearly needs to address this throwback to the culture of impunity and entitlement that those in political power in Malaysia, claims as their own….a culture that has exisisted dulu, sekarang dan looks like selama lama nya! And it sickens me to the core of my whole being when I see that the present PH government, at its highest executive level, is already on the way towards more impunity and more entitlement
