Busy Day in Court.
It will be a busy day in the Malaysian courts today!
Najib Razak will be served with a bankruptcy notice today for his failure to pay income tax amounting to approximately RM1.2 billion (One point two billion ringgit!) Aiyah this is certainly not chicken feed. Once declared, he will not be able to contest in the election anymore.
And Zahid Hamidi is appealing for the amalgamation of his charges. The law clearly states that in cases of CBT, the prosecution may amalgamate all alleged offenses which happened in a calendar year into one charge. In Zahid Hamidi’s case, 12 transactions and 12 charges were laid against him, although it happened in one calendar year. The keyword is “may” – so if the prosecution wants to make it to be as many charges as possible, they could break it down as they did in this case.
Zahid’s appeal has already been denied twice. In the High Court and in the Court of appeal.
Looks like the powers that be are throwing the book and the kitchen sink his way. Here is hoping the AG and his lesser minions are their own people and that the wheels of justice are allowed to turn independent of the political pariahs in Putrajaya.
Or is that too forlorn a hope in the times that we now live in?
