The politics of Covid19

Selamat Pagi Malaysia. It is now 4.45 am here in Melbourne. I am tired. Today we hit a new record of 4029 cases and 8 deaths, 205 are still in ICU of which 79 require a ventilator. For Selangor 67% of cases from outside clusters and KL 73%. Cases in Johor continues to exceed KL. I think Muhyddin has told MOH not to hold back figures to justify the EMERGENCY. Expect the rest of the week to be in the 3-4k range.

Take your thoughts back to May 13th of 1969. Think back to the time when racial differences were highlighted and used to fuel one race against another. When emotions, not reason was allowed to rule the masses resulting in a frenzy of murder and mayhem.

Think back to the time in the early 1990’s when the then government under Mahathir waged an all-out war on the Sultans. Civil servants had to seek Mahathir’s permission to see the King. State government refused business favours for their Sultans. New Straits Times wrote of the sultans’ excesses: how Sultan Ismail Petra of Kelantan, imported 30 duty-free luxury cars when he was only allowed seven. How he got away from customs officials in a Lamborghini Diablo on the pretext of test-driving it. They wrote about the RM200 million cost of maintaining the Sultans lavish lifestyles. Of hospital wards kept for their exclusive use. The RM9.3 million spent on new cutlery and bedspreads for the king. Eventually, changes in the constitution were implemented in March 1993 and any Sultan violating the law could be prosecuted in a special court.

Think of more recent events when in 2018, political leaders within Pakatan Harapan skilfully focused the rakyat’s desire for change and a new beginning away from the corruption and abuse wrecked by 60 years of Umno of kleptocratic rule, into an electoral victory for Pakatan Harapan.

And there have been other instances where responsible and irresponsible political leaders “managed” the rakyat towards ends and goals that serves theirs or the rakyat’s interest…..or both of their interests.

Think about all this, and maybe you can begin to understand what is now being done in Malaysia today by TSMY Back Door Government and his cabal of rogue political pariahs!

Today Din is not using race or religion. Today Din is not using the Royals. He is not using our failing economy or the uncertainty of a wretched future that will surely come our way. None of the above is being used by Din to whip Malaysian into a frenzy of fear and despair of what is to come if there is no EMERGENCY.

Today most disturbingly, Din is using a real pandemic crisis that is raging within our nation, using Covid 19 for his own political purposes and survival. Din is using a real life and death drama to have our King to declare an EMERGENCY. He tells our King that an EMERGENCY is needed to save the country when in reality that EMERGENCY is needed to save his political life and that of the political pariahs who are with him.

How more despicable can anyone get? To play politics with our lives and the lives of other Malaysians just so that he can remain as prime minister? And more disturbing for us all, how is it possible that the IGP, the DG of health and the other functionaries of Government who are certainly beholden to Din for their periok nasi, but, who surely must owe a higher duty of care and responsibility to speak the truth…how is it possible for these people to be complicit with Din in Din’s duplicity to our King and to us all?

Why not, instead of playing up the damage that is now being inflicted by Covid 19 upon the people and the economy, why not talk about what the government can and will do to minimise the damage? Why not instead of playing up the increasing numbers of those being infected daily by Covid 19 and the increasing number of deaths we are also seeing daily, why not focus on the positive? Focus on what is being done to combat this deadly pandemic. Focus on the measures being rolled out (if any) to help those most in need of help to get them through these trying times – to put food on the table, to help them pay for rent and medical expenses and to help them to survive through this pandemic until better times. Why not do something to help those in business not lose everything they have because of the trials and tribulations that they have to go through because of the MCO? Why not focus on these things that can bring hope and assist the rakyat in a practical way to get through the pandemic?

Why focus on the negative?

My friends, Din and his political pariahs have to focus on the negatives. Yes, my friends, all the others with Din, are complicit in persuading our King to declare the EMERGENCY that is not needed. An EMERGENCY that is required not to save our nation or our people from COVID-19, but an EMERGENCY that is needed to save Din and his cabal of political pariahs! Ptui. Enough said.
