Cakap! Cakap! POLITICS

cakap cakap 2021. I write, you read.

The clamoring for DSAI to go is deafening. Even more deafening is the silence from DSAI to these demands for him to leave. Was it not just a few months ago that the same can be said of Tun Mahathir? How the wheel turns. Yesterday Tun, today DSAI, and tomorrow who knows? Din perhaps?

The real question that we must ask ourselves is simply this: Why are we talking about these people almost on a daily basis? Are these our heroes? Are these people to be admired, worshiped, and respected? Or are they villains that fascinate us all because the macabre always does attract the adulation of some of us?

And I know that I can add many other political pariahs and other individuals to this list. Isa, Azeez, Nazri, Bung Mokhtar, Rosmah, Sharizat,… so so many of them who are talked about constantly by so many of us…even me!

What is fascinating about them? What rivets our attention to the things that they do (being corrupt) or the things that they do not do (being honest)? Why is the rakyat clamoring for information and details about the lives that these people lead? About the houses that they live in, the car that they drive, the watches and handbag they use? Are most of us living our lives through them and, for that bizarre reason, these people hold great interest for us?

All we can draw comfort from is this. These political pariahs days of wine and roses are over. Some of them, have invariably, descend to the level of being figures of fun and mirth every time they open their mouth or make an appearance in public. Some of them are now convicted felons. Most of them live from day to day waiting for the noose of Justice to tighten their hold upon their corrupt self.

Ku Nan can still throw a wedding feast of gargantuan proportions for his son on the day before he is convicted for corruption, but jostling for a place in the media reports of what kind of wedding his money can buy are also reports of how corrupt Ku Nan is. These political pariahs can no longer have everything their way.

They are being unflattering written about in the mainstream and in online media, they are being prodded and examined closely by MACC and the Judiciary, and worse of all, the rakyat is on to them for their corrupt ways.

This is progress. This is what an informed public will do when the mandate they have given their political leaders is abused and misused. This is what happened when the time has come for our nation and its people to move against corrupt, arrogant, and irresponsible leaders. Now let us build on the success, albeit for now temporary, that we had in 2018.

Already in 2020 an ex-Prime Minister and a Minister, has become convicted felons. Already the wife of that ex-prime Minister is in the courts perhaps, dalam masa terdekat, also to be declared a convicted felon. Riza Aziz, her son, by another husband now knows that having a stepfather who was once prime minister is not protection enough for him to not be prosecuted for when he does wrong.

All this has come to pass and much more will happen to let these corrupt political pariahs understand that they will now have to live with the real fear of going to jail for the crimes that have committed whilst in public office! Do you have any idea how frightening it is for these political pariahs to have to live under these circumstances?

Do you have any idea of how fearful it is for these political pariahs to have to look left and right, and even under the table every time they want to steal, plunder and scam our country out of another ringgit to put into their pockets and the pockets of others like themselves? And for you and me, is it not so satisfying to see what is being put out there on the Net, in FB, the Blogs and any other social media outlets, about the corrupt and arrogant ways of these political pariahs?

No more are these political pariahs able to strut their stuff along the corridors of power in Putrajaya. If truth be told no more can any of them be sure that our eyes are not watching every abuse they do and everywhere that they do it?

No political leaders can do what they once do with impunity just a few years back because the possibility of them being outed out by the authorities and by the rakyat is always hanging over their heads.

They know we are watching them. We know that they know that we are watching them. So not only has the inquisition started to out these political pariahs but once outed, they will have to answer for their foul deeds.

Do not be disheartened that the convicted felon is still out here roaming our streets. An ex-prime minister walking down the street of KL is not the same as a convicted felon walking down the streets of KL kan? Yes they both can walk the streets of KL but we know who is who!

We need to continue our work of bringing positive change to our country after 2020 is done. I, for one, am disappointed that I can still not go back to my Malaysia because of that arrest warrant hanging over my head but I also know that the day will soon come when I can. The day will soon come when all of us can be sure that at the very least, the authorities and the courts will be able to do their duty to see justice served.

They might not succeed all the time but even to know that they can try is a far far cry from the time, not so long ago, when the Attorney General dared to stand up in public to lie to the people that the PM who appointed him to the post, was not guilty of doing any wrong even when he has done so.

So this is progress. This is what an informed rakyat can and has started doing to take back our country from these political pariahs who have brought our nation politically and economically to its knees. This is what 2021 holds for us all…the ability to continue with the work we started in 2018 and to make sure that never again, will our nation be taken away from us again by political pariahs of any kind.

I write, you read, and we will try to bring about positive change in this nation that we all love dearly. Can we do that together?
