Indonesia, Malaysia and DEMOCRACY!
Selamat Pagi Malaysia.
Indonesia now has an enlightened President in Joko Widodo. The operative word here is “NOW”. There was a time, still within living memory, when hundreds of thousands of Indonesians were killed after the night of Sept. 30, 1965, when six generals were slain as renegade troops tried to overthrow President Sukarno.
With bullets flying around him, the Army chief, General Nasution, ”an honest man, an honorable man,” fled his Jakarta house in his pajamas, leaping over a wall into the Iraqi ambassador’s residence next door. His 6-year-old daughter and an aide were shot to death. That night started a blood-letting that went on for months as hundreds of thousands of Communists, suspected Communists, and trade unionists were killed in reprisals.
That incident and a few others that have happened in Indonesia have taught the Indonesian people and its leaders, much tolerance and understanding of each other differences. Differences that have now been used to unite the people, Wijodo, its president is the embodiment of that success.
A success that Malaysia has yet to emulate…nor could it now emulate for we now lack any leader of substance, of any ability, or a leader with any sense of grace and decency that would make him/her do what Wijodo is now doing in Indonesia.
Where this Indonesian President has succeeded, this back door PM of Malaysia has miserable failed. Din has failed for one reason and one reason only. He lacks the mandate to govern from the Malaysian electorate. How can you be a leader unless you have been chosen to be one by the people you intend to lead. For sure there are leaders who have imposed their leadership upon a nation through force or devious means.
For sure there are leaders who have won elections unfairly with false promises and money, but this much we know of Malaysia today. At least Umno stayed in power because they won elections continuously for the six decades there were in government. How they won these elections can be questioned and debated about until kingdom comes, but Umno won elections!
Din and his political pariahs have not won any elections. Din does not have the people’s mandate to be in Putrajaya and they are in government at the pleasure of PAS and Umno. That the have survived for so long after Langkah Sheraton can be attributed to guile, deviousness, and the use of any means at his disposal, legal and illegal, to hang on to power aided conspiratorially by his obnoxious band of political pariahs.
Din’s back door government will not survive in 2021. They are barely surviving now and it does take an Einstein to work out that what will happen dalam masa terdekat. Not if Din’s and the government he and his political pariahs are trying desperately to keep alive will fall, but when it will fall.
That they are still in government today insults our intelligence because Din and his political pariah think that they do not have to contend with our disgust and loathing of their presence in Putrajaya. They think that the people’s will can be bend, that the people’s will can be manipulated, and molded to suit their purpose. Din thinks that the fact that he is now prime minister, an unelected one at that, entitles him to stay in that position even without a mandate from the people for him to be there.
I do not worry if Din will be there past any general elections. My worry is when that general election will take place. My worry is if we will have a clean and fair general election. My worry is if the people will wake up in time to ensure that the next PM they elect to office will be their PM, will do their bidding, and will lead our nation and the rakyat as we would want him to lead us – with grace, responsibility, accountability, and honor.
Anything else is unacceptable. Anything else will surely damm our nation and our people to languish in that obnoxious twilight world where “cash is king,” corruption and arrogance thrives and political pariahs strut the corridors of power making money out of our educating our children, making money out of our defence procurement compromising our nation’s security, making money out of critical infrastructure spending necessary to develop our nation, making money out of race and religion and most despicable of all, making money out of the purchase of the COVID 19 vaccines that are vital to saving the lives of countless hundreds of thousands of our people.
It cannot get any worse than this for our people…can it?
Yes, it can! Imagine what will happen if this rabid coalition, with PAS in the driving seat, finds ways and means to stay in government after 2021. Just imagine them being in Putrajaya through 2021! If that does not strike apprehension and fear in your hearts, nothing will.
So please guys, wake up and do your bit for the general election that will be upon us before the first half of 2021 …or even earlier if the Pandemic is brought under control sooner. We must start our march towards Putrajaya together, earlier and more determined than before.
We have done it in 2018 when our opposition then, Barisan Nasional, was more formidable than this Din’s pathetic Back Door government. Off with their heads. Let us begin now and may the force be with us!
