Pakatan Harapan…and then there was nothing!

Pakatan Harapan is no longer relevant without Government. Hell, even in government PH was an accident waiting to happen. It was a coalition that lacks cohesion and miserably failed to exude a sense of confidence even among us, the believers. The 2018 general election gave us possibilities of what could happen if PH had got its act together. PH could possibly do government. The fight against corruption could possibly hold together little political napoleons and differing political ideologies to allow them to govern, but it all came to naught!
We had hoped that the mandate given by the people for PH to govern would have given them the courage to do government in a manner that was different from the one that then exists after over six decades of Barisan Nasional neglect and abuse. Instead, the leaders in PH first defied our mandate by not going all out to make the changes the people wanted, and then proceed to defiled the very mandate we gave them through that Langkah Sheraton that will surely be remembered by history as a betrayal, treasonous even, of the trust we have placed upon those who were PH trusted political leaders. Every one of them failed us.
For a while, we were cheering on the little PH train that we thought could climb mountains when in reality, it could not even climb hills. In the end, Pakatan Harapan imploded from within because PH was full of wannabe prime ministers whose antics mirrored their Umno DNA. While Umno had the political will, the network, and the cash to succeed in spite of anything, these battle royals between Mahathir, Anwar, Azmin and that Jhonny come lately Muhyiddin was fatal to PH. Pakatan Harapan simply did not have the ability to weather these battles and still survive once Mahathir left.
Now Pakatan Harapan is history. The grand coalition that saw DAP, PKR, Mat Sabu and Mahathir together, now lies not only dead in the water but is certainly sinking like the doom Titanic. All that is left is for the remnants of PH to arrange the deck chairs on the sinking Pakatan Harapan ship before all is lost to the unrelenting tide of political weaponry that Umno still has. No one knows better than Umno that cash and the toxic dream of covering oneself in political glory, even if it was for a moment in time, are powerful persuaders for individuals like Azmin and Muhyiddin who in the past had always been the bridesmaid but never the bride, to do Umno’s bidding to wreck the PH coalition. Dangle that possibility in front of them and Langkah Sheraton was the Armageddon that befell not only PH but will also eventually befell Azmin and Muhyiddin. What is left to be decided by Umno is the timing of that fall.
If Pakatan Harapan is crumbling/dying/expiring, what comes next?
For one thing, Anwar’s assertions of a strong, formidable majority, have not materialized. Mahathir’s dalliances with Ku Li and every other conceivable option Tun may have had tested and has been found wanting. The Chinese are done with DAP. The Chinese are done with MCA a long time ago. All that is left for the Chinese to do now is to see how they will “work” with Umno when Umno is back in Putrajaya. Let it not be unsaid that the Chinese are practical people who have adjusted to political realities from time immemorial. The others in Malaysia will find their place once the dust settles. Sabah and Sarawak should leave Malaysia for there is no reason on earth why they should have joined Semananjung in the first place because there was nothing to be gained from the union. Only the interests of the political elites everywhere were served, not the people.
So really there is nothing to look forward to by all of us except for doom and gloom in the decade to come.
