MAJU : A few good men/women.
We are now past the point of absurdity. DSAI as a War Minister ala Churchill? Imposing CMO to stop DSAI from having an audience with the YDPA? What else? DSA I or Tun Mahathir as President of Umno? PDRM to be under the direct purview of PMO? Huh…as if there are not already!
In all this, madness ebbs and flows. Being a blogger for the past decade and counting, I see the ebbs and flow of madness more often than you guys. In all this, the only constant is change, and yet there are a few things that have remained constant. There are still a few good men and women among us.
Siti Kassim and Taufik Ismail are two of them. Both of them have their own moment of madness too, but over time, these two are the few among us that walk their talk.
I first came across Siti many years back when I read about her efforts to get a sampan for an Orang Asli that needed the sampan to ferry some children across a river so that the children could go to school. It has stuck in my mind because there are not a lot of Malaysians doing that…in fact, there are not a lot of people in any part of the world doing that kind of work. Since then I have watched her “grow” into the person she is today. …a loud, and at times opinionated lady with a heart of gold doing the right thing by us and helping Malaysian lead a better life. Taufik is steady as he goes. He too, has his moments but is unwavering in his matalamat – helping Malaysians to lead a better life. These two are good people to have in your corner when facing impossible odds.
And in Malaysia today the odds are near impossible for most of us who want to get on with the business of living a life and earning a decent living! Here is the problem with people. You give them a few inches and they want more. You give them an arm and a leg and they want more. You invite them into your house on a hot afternoon for a drink to quench their thirst and they want more. And then when you give them political power, they want everything! They do all that because it was you that made them think they could do so and get away with it and now my friends they are trying to get the last shirt that you have on your back. What do we do?
We sometimes can fight our own battle and win if there is a level playing field but when the rot has set in over the last few decades and now threaten to overwhelm us all, we need a few good men and women to be in the battle with us. We need Siti Kassim and Taufik Ismail and a few others if we are to overcome our adversaries. So I urge you to think of the ways and means that you can personally assist these two and others of their ilk who are now fighting our battles for us and with us.
