Selamat Pagi Malaysia. Let me story you….a few years back, I had already almost given up hope that there will ever be a leader of substance and charisma to turn everything on its head and who, by the sheer strength of their character, make change possible in Malaysia. Then along came Tun Mahathir to fill in that vacuum and lead the opposition and us towards electoral victory in the 2018 general election. Since then, when maybe misplaced passions for one’s own race, maybe a passion to once again have that unchecked, unbridled political power to enable him to do what he thinks is right for our Nation, maybe treachery from within by those whom he had trusted to do his bidding and had failed him because their own personal ambitions would not have been served if they had served Tun too well, maybe old age….maybe all of the above, may have conspired to make Tun no longer the leader held in awe and reverence as he once was after the 2018 electoral victory. Today Mahathir is a spent force and yet in this uncommon situation that Tun finds himself in, he still has his wits around him. It was Tun who told us that Shhafie Apdal should be the Prime Minister after Din.
That left off a centre proposal by Tun is telling! Even at a time when he knows that he will no longer lead, he can still tell us who will. Shafie Apdal, says Tun, should be Prime Minister. I do not know about you guys but anyone that says “tidak kira ugamanya, tidak kira bangsanya, tidak kira keturunannya, daerahnya”…….in any context, in any situation, for any reason…. gets my vote to lead Sabah, gets my vote to lead me, my nation and everyone else that calls Malaysia home!
I do not know about you guys, but this morning, for the first time in a long long while, I woke up knowing that maybe, just maybe…we have a leader in Shafie Apdal. A leader who has seized the opportunity, seized our imagination, seized the moment… capre diem…seized his tryst with destiny to do what needs to be done to make Malaysia whole again! I am sure he will emerge from Sabah’s election victorious as its Chief Minister and from there, together with us, leading us, he will go on to Putrajaya, to be Prime Minister! I remembered this feeling when I heard Tun say that he will lead the opposition against a corrupt Umno a few years back, and this morning, for the second time in my lifetime, I am again emboldened to think that we have a leader in Shafie Apdal. A leader who will take back our country for the rakyat and then he will serve the rakyat to the best of his ability with others of his ilk and genre. What say you guys? Am I right or wrong? Is Shafie Apdal the leader we need, the leader we want… and now…the leader we have?
