“During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.” Mandela
This morning I woke up with those words of Mandela in my head. How noble of Mandela to not only speak those words but also to live them! After Mahatma Gandi no one touched my life quite like Mandela for in the manner he chose to live his life, Mandela has inspired us all. His words, his deeds, and his life, full of grace and humility, are the essence of life that many of us seek but never find. How, I ask myself, is Mandela able to emerge from twenty-seven years in a prison full of compassion and love to live the rest of his life in the service of his nation and of others? How does anyone overcome such personal physical and mental suffering and deprivation to be someone the world adores? How does our life compare with that of Mandela? Perish that thought! Our lives will never rival that of Mandela. Not the suffering he went to, not the challenges he overcomes, and never the greatness he achieved. All that we can hope for is that Mandela’s life will inspire us to do our best for our nation and for others.
Selamat Pagi Malaysia. Life is good. Come and be with me for there are things we have to do as we again begin our walk towards Putrajaya as we did in 2018. The old familiar faces are still there. Tun Mahathir, Tun Siti Hashmah, Azizah, Kit Siang, Mat Sabu, and also the young faces that gave us all much hope. And this time around we also have our brother, Anwar Ibrahim. With Anwar, we now have more than enough to make up for the pengkhianat and treasonous axis of evil that has left us. Good riddance. Let the games begin!
